Pennekamp State Park is only 10 miles away with coral
reefs of such beauty that they will astound you.
  Or maybe you are adventurous enough to dive our
new wreck, the 510-foot Spiegel Grove, the largest ship
ever sunk as an artificial reef. It took eight years to get
this project from conception to completion, as the
Retired Navy Landing Ship was purchased, cleaned,
transported and then finally sunk to take its final
resting place off our islands on June 10, 2002. Again, a
sight not to be missed. You can see it by Glass Bottom
Boat ride or take the plunge yourself. It is just but ONE
of the underwater marvels that await you.

Or, if you want to take a walk on the wild side, the renowned Holiday Isle is
just a few miles away. From the Top of the Isle restaurant to the world
famous Tiki Bar, the Margarita's and Tropical fruit drinks run abound.

   But if the sunning, and the swimming and the
fishing and the diving don't interest you, then maybe
the sail boarding, or the jet skying or the parasailing
will. Or maybe you would rather swim with the
dolphins or shop in some of the most unusual yet
topical shops around. Try Treasure Village - a true
Fort with a 100-foot lobster out front, or the Rain
Barrel, where local artist display their work. Or
maybe Bass Pro Shop is more your style, where you
will find everything from sports clothes to fishing
gear to jazz bands and fabulous seafood. All but a
hop, skip or a jump away from your luxurious
apartment.
   Still not enough? No problem! We saved the best
for last!!  THE FOOD!!!!! From the 5 star gourmet
restaurant "Marker 88" that is practically next door,
to the local hang out's where the fresh fish
practically jump on your plate, sumptuous food will
satisfy even the most persnickety of pallets. A full
description of the local eating establishments will be
provided as recommended by people who have lived
here and dined here for over 25 years. What ever
your taste in food or entertainment, you will find
yourself pleasantly surprised.

Comments: there is a nature trail inside the park. A bike path
runs along side the entrance for biking, jogging and walking.
In the parks visitors center you are introduced to the
underwater beauty of sea life in a 30,000 gallon above
ground tank. They also offer films about the park, reefs and
the sea life that lives there. Admission begins at $2.50 for
one person.

Comments: Indian Key is rich with history and makes for a very fun
trip. There is literature on the island with a map and narrative on the
island's history. The island is only a few hundred yards offshore and can
be reached by kayak or canoe. If you have your own small boat, kayak
or canoe, you can launch it at Indian Key Fill (you will see a sign for
Indian Key fill at about m.m. 78.5 as you are headed south).
ANNE'S BEACH
